The incident occurred on September 28, 2024, in a parking lot near a skate park in Park City, Utah. A 73-year-old cyclist, Gary Peacock, confronted 22-year-old driver Pierce Kempton, accusing him of violating the state's three-foot passing law. The interaction, which was widely discussed online, involved the cyclist repeatedly opening the driver's car door to prevent him from leaving while calling the police. When local authorities arrived, both individuals were cited at the scene. Kempton was issued a traffic citation for passing too closely, while Peacock was cited for disorderly conduct. Following the incident, Kempton contested his ticket and submitted his vehicle's dashcam footage to the Park City Assistant City Attorney's Office. The footage, which showed Kempton steering away from the cyclist, was deemed exculpatory. Consequently, the traffic violation against Kempton was officially dismissed on October 11, 2024. Peacock's disorderly conduct citation was resolved through the payment of a $160 fine. The case is considered closed, and no further legal actions have been reported.
