On February 22, 2026, a confrontation occurred at a Whataburger in Paris, Texas, involving a customer later identified as 41-year-old Anthony William Newhuis. According to reports from the Paris Police Department, Newhuis was initially asked to leave the premises after behaving in a verbally abusive manner toward employees. He complied with the request but reportedly threatened to return and assault the manager. Shortly after the police left the area, Newhuis returned to the restaurant and allegedly initiated a physical altercation by punching the manager. In response to the assault, the manager and other staff members utilized a trash can and a wire fry basket to subdue Newhuis and force him out of the building. Officers subsequently located Newhuis in the restaurant parking lot with a head injury and placed him under arrest. While in custody at the Lamar County Jail, Newhuis was further accused of intentionally flooding his cell, leading to an additional charge of criminal mischief. He was later released from jail after posting bonds totaling $4,500 for the combined charges.
